With KATHLEEN RUGH
The goal of this intensive two-session, photo essay
workshop is for each student to discover who they are as a photographer
and why they feel the desire to photograph. Why do we shoot what we shoot?
Kathleen will encourage participants to work intuitively and
respond in a personal and emotional way. A photographer’s
own unique history, experiences and background are all integral to how
he or she sees. Through photographing, critiquing and editing we will
explore the path to your vision.
The workshop will begin with a group review of portfolios and an overview of photographic masters from the past like Atget and Cartier-Bresson, to contemporary pioneers such as Sally Mann, Abelardo Morrell and Todd Hido.
In the week between sessions, students will be assigned to initiate or continue a body of work which begins to express their personal vision. Participants will refine
their concepts and ideas, learn to edit photographs in series, and continue to develop their visual style. Through group discussions of the best work, students will work
towards defining a unique photographic voice.
